If you’re still trying to run an auction business with texts, phone calls, spreadsheets, and email, your life could be much simpler if you make the leap to auction software. Odds are you know this, but you still haven’t committed. Why?
Maybe you resist the switch to software for many of the same reasons you resist any other new tech – fear of the unknown. And besides, it seems easier to continue business as usual. But as the old saying goes, “It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.” Ironically, although Mark Twain is often considered the source, no one knows who first said this.
So, if you’re not open to the idea of taking your business online with an auction software platform, it’s probably for one of the two reasons given above: what you don’t know and what you know that isn’t so. So…
Here’s what you don’t know
You’re going to be surprised by how much easier your life becomes. Of course, this is based on the extent to which you embrace the software. But once you experience the rewards of a simplified business process, you’ll be hooked. For example, being able to perform multiple functions with your list of contacts, rather than manually one by one is a massive positive change.
The auction process will take less time and less hassle. Sure you still have to set up your auctions, take pictures of items and post them, and create descriptions. But once you do, it’s done and you can monitor instead of run the auction. You’ll have the flexibility to reconfigure quickly. For example, you can set up a prebid auction, or decide to allow people to buy outright prior to the auction.
Here’s what you know that isn’t so –
The learning curve will take too long. Remember the first time you tried to type on your smartphone? Sure it took time to get used to, but soon you found yourself typing frantically to a friend or loved one without thinking much about it. Maybe you’re one of the clever ones who learned voice to text. The point is, the rewards outweighed the initial inconvenience. There is a learning curve, but the leap to auction software is worth it.
When you begin to see the benefits of the software, you’ll realize the learning curve is a small price to pay.
You don’t have time to do this right now. Maybe. Maybe you don’t have time not to. Your customers are more accustomed to a digital lifestyle than they’ve ever been. Though many are eager to return to the offline auction environment, the fact is that many have grown to prefer online access. Can you really afford not to accommodate both? The sooner you make the leap, the sooner you can benefit.
“There’s no shortage of remarkable ideas, what’s missing is the will to execute them.” -Seth Godin
What you do know is that once you make up your mind to do something, and narrow your focus, you tend to make it happen. After all, you didn’t get this far in your business journey without that ability.
